Understanding Sleep Disorders with Autism

Additional resources

There are additional resources for parents of children with autism. Check online to see what support groups are in your area.

There may also be a helping hand to lighten your load. Speak with your pediatrician about your state’s program for developmental disabilities and if your child is eligible.

The care-providers of state programs for those with developmental disabilities are approved by and contracted with the state to provide in-home care and services.

Eligibility requirements vary from state to state. Some programs don’t provide help for a child with ASD who are high-functioning, for example. Other states have programs for those diagnosed with autism but not other developmental conditions.

A number of states offer help with hands-on-care and household duties. They may also offer “respite care” which allows you to have a break by going out of the home for errands and social events.

It’s extremely important that you make time to care for yourself as well.
