I have a 7-year-old son who currently goes to the dentist once a year to have a check up and a cleaning. Should I be taking him to the dentist more? How many times a year would you recommend?
About every 6 months is generally good to get them comfortable with the dentist, make sure of no problems, and get adequate cleanings if necessary. They can also benefit from fluoride as a preventive measure.
Thank you for your question. A seven year old is going through many physical and emotional changes. This also holds true with their mouth. New teeth are coming in, baby teeth are falling out, and hygiene responsibilities are left more to the childs own responsibility. From a dental standpoint we are worried about crowding issues and malocclusion bad bite situations arising along with an increase risk of caries cavities. Therefore with so much going and so many changes happening, it is more beneficial for your son to be seen twice a year to get in front of any issues before they become detrimental. Hope this helps. Have a great day!
It should be good to go twice a year for a check up and cleaning. In that way we can do X rays to see if there is cavity and how is the development and the eruption of The permanent teeth
Twice a year is usually recommended
6 monthly
With my patients, I recommend routine 6 month cleanings. That is a must for me! Catching problems early are always better in the long run.
This depends on the patients oral hygiene habits, snacking patterns, and if there are oral appliances present or not. I always recommend 2 times per year, and more if the aforementioned reasons are determined to be a factor.
Children should be seen at least every 6 months unless they are at higher risk and have already had multiple decayed teeth or cannot maintain their oral hygiene in which case should be seen more frequently.
Usually twice yearly.
Another important point is that cavities grow more rapidly in baby teeth, so detecting them earlier makes for an easier fix.

Children should be seen by a dentist two times per year or every six months, just like an adult.
At least twice a year
Twice a year if low caries risk.
Twice a year for a 7 yr old. Most adults need three times a year.
The ADA and AAPD both recommend that children be seen every 6 months (twice a year) for their routine check-ups. Prevention is key to good dental/oral health!
As soon as the permanent teeth start erupting (around 6 to 7 years old) they should get checked every 6 months! And please check your son's brushing and flossing from time to time ;)
