• Am I starting menopause?

I will be 40 years old in 2 months. I am very moody and emotional. And now my sex drive has gone crazy. It's always been high but never ever like this. I have had a partial hysterectomy. I still have both my ovaries. Could I be starting menopause or could my hormones be out of balance?

Your hormones can be checked by a blood test. I would check thyroid studies also. Your increased libido would not be a sign of menopause. Usually the testosterone comes from the ovaries & adrenal gland. That can be checked also. I would recommend getting those checked.

No menopause, but theses are changes seen as we pass 35. The mood swings are usually more common weeks before the cycle, and, although you have had a hysterectomy, the ovaries continue to work as usual. There are medications for the PMDD. Exercise and meditation also help. Speak with your ob/gyn.

Hormone changes are the hallmark of premenopausal changes, but it can be difficult to diagnose because hormones fluctuate and don’t stay the same day after day, so detecting a normal level may not necessarily mean ovarian function is normal.

It may be helpful to talk to your provider about your symptoms and see if testing is needed.
