• Can I drink a little while taking this med?

I am an alcoholic currently dealing with cutting back on alcohol in a healthy manner to prevent a seizure. I am on Bactrim for an infection.

Hi , It isnt t recommended that you drink alcohol while taking antibiotics due to increase side effects of the medications , reduce effectiveness which could prolong the illness that you are currently experiencing . Also drinking alcohol while taking Bactrim could cause dangerous interactions such as Nausea, Vomiting , Headache and Liver Damage . As always consult with your Primary Care Provider for other alternatives if you are unable to follow their instructions carefully . I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Thank you for reaching out .

Hi, I would not recommend drinking alcohol with Bactrim, side effects to be expected like headache, vomiting tachycardia. Hope that helps Regards Zhenzhen.

When taking the antibiotic and drinking alcohol, it also lowers the effectiveness of the antibiotic and could potentially throw the treatment off track, and may not work as effectively. Please be mindful and just weigh your options when making decisions. Talk to your Dr. if you are not able to abstain, and get the opinion of someone who is familiar with your medical history and who is able to see and monitor you closely. Hope this helps. Thanks!
