It is important to have the tooth assessed by a dentist to insure it is able to be saved and restored. If the bone has been destroyed, the tooth may not be worth the investment in a root canal as it's long term stability will still be poor. In general, if the only issue with the tooth is that the nerves have died resulting in an abscess, a root canal is a predictable procedure with a great long term prognosis. Please use a root canal specialist or Endodontist for this procedure. The fee is no higher than a general dentist, but the quality is consistently better.

Hi, Sometimes. If the tooth isn't too badly damaged and decayed, it can be saved. If the damage is too severe, It cannot.

Usually. If a tooth is abscessed it will require either root canal treatment or extraction. Bri

Often it can be, depending on if it is because of the root canal. If it is a gum abscess, then you would need periodontal treatment, sometimes with the root canal too. If it is fractured causing your abscess, then it usually can not be saved. Good Luck.

Typically yes. If tooth is too broken down it will need to be extracted. Either way, please get in to your dentist immediately. Dental infections can become life threatening!

Yes. For starters it is wise to have the work done by an endodontist who specializes in performing root canals. He will have way more expertise in doing these procedures than a general dentist, especially if it is a molar tooth that needs treatment. Also, an endodontist will have more diagnostic capabilities and be better equipped with microscopes and advance imaging techniques than a general dentist. Please realize that molar canals can be as small as a human hair and are virtually invisible to the naked eye or even if the doctor is wearing loupes.

Depending on the extent and severity of the abscess including other factors like tooth mobility, etc a root canal can save the tooth in many instances.

As long as the tooth is restorable, a root canal can help save a tooth.
