Hi, do you know what is causing the ankle pain? Having a past history of ankle injuries, car accidents, trauma, as well as a current aggravation or sprain to the area, can contribute to pain. First, we would need to ensure that there is no fracture or tear of any bones, ligaments, or tissues. Typically, an Xray is taken to detect any fractures. Swelling and bruising can be tamed naturally with RICE an acronym that stands for rest, ice, compression, and elevation. We also utilize hydrotherapy, cold laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, PRP, and homeopathy to reduce inflammation and promote healing in the affected area. Then, promote physical therapy to strengthen the affected area and improve its movement, thereby enhancing the range of motion. In short, it depends on the injury sustained. And always rule out a fracture.

Hi, Yes, most ankle pain can be treated by acupuncture. I'm sure there are some things that wouldn't respond, but I've not run into them yet. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I look forward to hearing from you. Best in health, Ellen Leonard, M.Ac., NCCAOM, L.Ac.

Improvement will depend on the cause of the pain. I recommend you see a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for evaluation and further treatment options.

Chronic ankle pain can often be managed naturally through various methods such as rest, ice therapy, gentle stretching and strengthening exercises, proper footwear, and maintaining a healthy weight. Additionally, dietary supplements like omega-3 fatty acids or glucosamine may help reduce inflammation and support joint health. Consult with a healthcare professional for personalized recommendations.

Please see my recent answer regarding having an unclear diagnosis, especially as it relates to the ankle and foot. There are many musculoskeletal or arthritic reasons for ankle pain, but one could also have circulation issues with swelling or poor blood supply, gout, pseudogout, adhesions from repeated ankle injuries, remote or new fractures, neuropathies or even poorly supportive shoes for your arch. Of course having knee, hip or pelvic misalignments will also change how you walk and thus affect your ankle. Please consider seeing a Specialist to assist you in discovering a specific diagnosis or at least help you understand the nature of your pain so that an indivialized plan of care can be developed.

Chronic ankle joint pain can be treated naturally with massage, acupuncture and herbs. I recommend 2-3 sessions a week for a couple of weeks.

Whether or not your chronic ankle pain can be fixed is going to depend heavily on what's causing the pain. Chronic pain rarely "just happens". There's a history to what's going on. Without that history, it's very difficult to provide any useful answer.

My suggestion would be to start with either your primary care provider or an orthopedic specialist. Get some imaging and an evaluation of your ankle. If the images and eval give us a concrete cause for the pain, then we're in a much better position to set expectations around what can and cannot be done as well as what treatment modality is going to give you the best potential outcome.

This is a very general question that can not be answered without history and exams.
It all depends on the diagnosis. Some etiology may improve with Physical therapy as others need surgical intervention.
