• Can ankle surgery be done with local anesthesia?

I will have ankle surgery under general anesthesia. I wonder if ankle surgery can be done with local anesthesia?

Local anesthesia is possible for limited and superficial surgeries on one's ankle; general anesthesia is preferred and optimal for the deeper invasive ankle surgeries that include bone penetrations or deep connective tissue repairs.

Not really. But you can either have a spinal anesthetic, a peripheral nerve block, or general LMA anesthesia.
