• Can herpes gladiatorum be contracted simply by sharing sweat and rubbing arms with others?

I was thinking of joining a martial arts school, and there will be a lot of arm on arm contact with other classmates. I'm concerned about contracting herpes gladiatorum from others based on all the skin on skin contact. Let's suppose someone has active herpes gladiatorum and a rash on their back. If we rub arms together and share sweat, and I have no open abrasions on my arms, would I still become infected even though I wasn't in contact with the rash?

Hello there! Skin to skin contact can spread skin infections including herpes. I recommend see a physician/dermatologist that can evaluate, and if needed, biopsy and diagnose the lesions so appropriate treatment can be given!
