• Can tonsillectomy be done under local anesthesia?

I will have a tonsillectomy. I want to know if a tonsillectomy can be done under local anesthesia?

Even if I were able to find an ENT doctor who would be willing to do a tonsillectomy on me with only local anesthesia, I would not go that route. Total anesthesia gives the surgeon 100% control over your airway so you can't wind up with your own blood in your lungs. Heck, I don't think the operation would be much fun for an awake patient.

Typically it is not done under local anesthesia. The ear, nose, and throat doctor will make the final decision.

Yes, but the surgeons don’t like it and will probably refuse.
