I will have a colonoscopy. Can you refuse sedation for a colonoscopy?

Yes, you can choose to undergo a colonoscopy without sedation, but it can be quite uncomfortable, due to bloating and pressure. If you have a healthy heart and lungs, sedation is extremely safe.

No, colonoscopy dilates the bowel to visualize the contours of the bowel. It is extremely painful, you would lose consciousness from the pain.
