I have periodontal disease and want to straighten my teeth. Can you straighten your teeth with periodontal disease?

Yes..we do this all the time if the patient has the disease and is consistent about maintaining their dental health. Seeing the periodontist on a regular basis is suggested to ensure you don't lose more bone.

No, the periodontal disease must be treated first. In some cases if the teeth and the bone level are at a healthy level then orthodontic treatment may be possible but if there is significant bone loss and tooth mobility exists then orthodontic treatment is not feasible.

It is advised that you have the periodontal disease controlled and in a maintenance phase that is watched very closely before you start any kind of orthodontic treatment.

Depends on the extent of the periodontal disease and how well its controlled. Yes, I have straightened teeth with periodontal disease, but I have a plan for stabilization and retention before treatment starts. In some cases it's an intermediate step to more advanced restorative
procedures like implants.

The periodontal disease has to be treated before teeth can be straightened and clearance from gum specialist is required before straightening of teeth can be done Thanks

If done carefully, yes. But the active periodontal disease must be under control and careful surveillance.

You can but the periodontal condition needs to be treated first.
