I will have a CT scan for kidney stones. Do you need contrast for kidney stones CT scan?

Usually CT scan Kidney Stone protocol does not need contrast. If a problem is discovered in the initial CT scan, one might need additional evaluation.

If the doctor kniws you have a history of kidney stones - I would recommend CT without IV contrast .

Some stones will show up without contrast. However contrast is advised as the scan also looks at the ureters and bladder.
