I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and want to treat it. Does getting a hysterectomy get rid of cervical cancer?
The cervix is the neck of the uterus. Provided there has been no spread of cancer cells to your lymph nodes, vaginal wall, or other local (close) areas, a hysterectomy should remove your cancer, however depending on your particular circumstances, your doctor may recommend chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, or some combination of the three. Remember that if you are dissatisfied or uncomfortable, you can always seek a second opinion. Good luck!
No, you have to remove the cervix as well. A complete and total hysterectomy with cervix removal have to be undertaken.
