There is a specific CBT protocol called CBTi specifically for insomnia and is effective.

Sleep hygiene is very effective. Use techniques to train your body it’s time to sleep.Very important to have the same routine every night one hour before bed. No electronics during this time.

The conscious thoughts in your mind may be rousing anxiety (i.e., adrenalin, which is a stimulant) as you attempt to sleep. I suggest you try to change your thoughts via CBT by pivoting from anxiety-provoking to self-soothing thoughts -- especially those that generate "worry" to those that are more calming that generate thoughts that it "will be OK."

CBT works by replacing bad thoughts with good thoughts that help to promote sleep, and it helps you overcome the underlying cause of your problems, unlike sleeping pills
