I have back pain and want to treat it. How long do you go to physical therapy for back pain?

I would go for about 12 visits. If that doesnt help, follow up with your doctor.
It depends on several factors, starting with what the root cause of your pain might be. And, contrary to the favorite orthopedic stories, LESS THAN 5% of the time is pain caused by a "slipped disc" or "Pinched nerve" or other x-ray stories. Find a PT who understands this, maybe has some "visceral manipulation" experience, and can teach you the important self-care techniques to help you move beyond your pain.
I will order an initial "evaluate and treat" for PT. I recommend a trial of 3 times a week for 4 weeks and then reevaluate with both PT and the patient.
