I have a question about my surrogate?
Hello, my surrogate, after getting some checkups, I found out that she has ureaplasma. The procedure is being done in a different country, other than the US, and I need a second opinion. She was prescribed some medications, and we are waiting for ureaplasma to clear up to start the procedure (placement of sperm and egg in her uterus) However, I have a concern, how it will affect the pregnancy? will it come back in the future while she is pregnant? Should I be worried?

Ureaplasma urealyticum can be treated with antibiotics, her sexual partner also has to be treated. During pregnancy, it is a good idea to do urine culture in first and 3rd trimester to look for this bacteria/any other associated bacteria. The rate of transmission from mother to baby(vertical transmission) is 18-55% in term infants and 29-55% in preterm infants but is significantly increased when chorioamnionitis is present. As long as the infection is treated, mother and baby should be fine.
