Hi, The direct answer to your question is it depends. If a dental implant is placed in a healed extraction site, then the risk is minimal. If an extraction is done and an immediate implant placed, it is a little riskier but still very successful. Other factors that determine the riskiness of dental implant surgery is the patient's health status and oral hygiene practices. Having more medical conditions and/or uncontrolled medical conditions increases the risk of dental implant surgery. Not brushing and flossing on a daily basis increases risk of dental implant surgery. Make sure to have your medical history reviewed by the dentist/oral surgeon placing the implant and make sure to follow all instructions given by the provider to minimize risk.
