• Is it okay to get a tattoo done during prengnacy?

I am planning to get a tattoo done but I'm a little worried because I am 19 weeks pregnant. Would this be a problem for my pregnancy?

Elective cosmetic procedures during pregnancy are not generally recommended. I would question any tattoo artist about prudence if you find one who would.

So long as there is no chance of infection.

Do not recommend tats at anytime as inks are introduced as foreign bodies into your system

Best to avoid as there is a possibility of absorption ink. 19 weeks pregnancy is well away but why take a risk.

I would not advise it. Sometimes when people get a tattoo done, they get hepatitis C infection.

Generally, injection of different inks on your skin between the epidermis and the dermis is dangerous because:

1) serious infection
2) if contamination occurs, there's risk for Hepatitis B-C, VIH, Ebola
3) injection of inks Into the body is toxic

Please stay away.

The inks used in tattooing has various chemicals. Check with the artist applying the tattoo and request a list of the ingredients. Then your OB doctor will be able to check if there would be any concern. Most inks are innocuous... and should be fine.

Tattoos are safe if done with clean instruments. There have been recorded cases of Hepatitis with unclean needles. My advice is NOT to get a tattoo, as a very high percentage of people regret it later.

You are just as open for infection when getting a tattoo when you are pregnant as you are when not pregnant.

Wait for another 20 weeks and get a tattoo if you need to. Not worth risking infections, pain and preterm labor during pregnancy.

Take care!
