Not usually. Some people experience pain after having a stent placed in their vein, this usually lasts for about 24-48 hours. Its described like a muscle spasm.

A venogram can involve minor discomfort or a slight stinging sensation, but it is generally not considered painful. To learn more, connect with me at drjeromepuryear.com. Thank you!

You will receive intravenous medication which will help with sedation and pain if any. I don’t recall any patient complaining of significant pain after the venogram.

Venogram requires insertion of a catheter into a vein much like an IV that you would get fluids through if you needed it. Local anesthetic is applied to the skin where the vein will be accessed. The venogram itself does not cause pain as there are no nerves inside the vein.

Radionuclide venograms are only slightly painful during injection. Contrast venograms may be a little more uncomfortable.
