• Lyme Disease?

My mother had an unknown insect bite several days ago and developed a small rash the day after. She went into a clinic a day later who didn’t know what it was but prescribed her Clindamycin. That was three days ago. It started out as a small solid red circle and has now progressed in size and the inner part of the circle is faint giving it the classic Lyme appearance. I just want to make sure that if it is Lyme, she is on the correct type of antibiotics.

I agree, that does look like a typical target rash of Lyme. Clindamycin typically does not work. Safest thing is to get reevaluated and started on doxycycline which covers Lyme and most skin infections. I will say sometimes an insect bite or infection can often convalesce into something that looks like a target rash which can mimic Lyme disease, but best to play it safe and get reevaluated.
