• My daughter threw around the term "demisexual" the other day. What does this mean?

I'm aware of the different sexualities that our children identify themselves as. But I heard my daughter refer to herself as "demisexual" with her friends, and I haven't really heard of it before. What does this mean?

It can be confusing to navigate these new terms. Online it states “ Demisexuality is a sexual orientation in which a person feels sexually attracted to someone only after they've developed a close emotional bond with them. ”

Hope that helps.

A demisexual is a person who does not experience sexual attraction unless they form a strong emotional connection with someone.

I think she is probably imitating some term she heard on TV or heard someone using it.

The term means half-way between being asexual and sexual and is used to refer to someone who doesn’t have a sexual attraction to either boys or girls unless there is an emotional bond. It’s not an unhealthy way of being for an adolescent.
