I have -7 power on both my eyes. What can I do about it? I am feeling inferior among my peers by wearing these high power glasses.
Great question. I have your same prescription with some astigmatism so this is something I also know a lot about! Your 7.00 diopters of myopianearsightedness is based on the anatomy of your eyes. The Diopter is an optical unit of measurement like inches, feet, or yards used to measure an optical distance. Without your glasses on, your close vision should be clear even though you may have to hold reading materials close to your eyes, maybe around 7. And yes, your distance vision is blurry without glasses because things that you are looking at are focusing in front of your retina the film of your eyecamera.
So here are some of your options you may want to consider contact lenses and use the glasses only as a backup or at night when you remove your contact lenses after wearing them during the day. A contact lens fitting and an educational process would be required and there are many contact lenses available. What you are happy with, what fits your eyes best, what you can afford, and does this fit your personal, professional, and outside interest needs will be something that you will have to discuss with an optician or an optometrist. Another option for you may be refractive surgery which can correct your nearsightednessmyopia. BUT, most ophthalmologistsrefractive surgeons want this surgery done once you reach the age of 21. You must have a stable, nonchanging prescription for a period of time that the surgeon is comfortable with. Your corneas must be thick enough and healthy enough to undergo refractive surgery and there should not be any other eye conditions which will definitely be checked during a thorough eye examination.
If you are now under the care of an optician or an optometrist, they can certainly advise you as to who you should see, and they can then work cooperatively with an eye surgeon to provide you with the best care and great visual outcomes. One last comment about your glasses 7.00 diopter lenses must have a certain thickness based on the actual number you need. I know that your lenses have a thick edge. But you can reduce this cosmetic edge thickness appearance by keeping your eyeglass frame as small as possible that properly fits your face. And you should consider high index, polycarbonate lenses that have been polished and an edge coat properly applied at the optical laboratory. These options can reduce that cosmetic thick lens edge appearance. Good luck and best wishes.

I understand your concern, and at age 19, there are limited options for 7.00, you could wear contact lenses, or glasses, even though you dont like the high power lenses. If you are concerned about the appearance there are denser materials that will be thinner, having a smaller frame reduces the edge thickness, and appearance. There is not a surgical procedure available till age 21. I would not recommend considering LASIK or PRK until age 28 or so, assuming your prescription has stabilized. LASIK does not prevent you from changing, it just resets the clock, so your prescription could still change. There are some methods to try and prevent you from progressing including medication, and certain contact lenses.
You are a high myope. Your eyes can in most circumstances see normally with spectables, contact lenses or lasik. Ask an eye surgeon what he thinks would work best for you.
Orthokeratology
Many treatments are available to you.
-contact lenses
-LASIK/PRK. Laser reshaping of the eye.
-Intraocular contact lens behind cornea
-if cataract present, remove it and replace with a lens that restores vision without glasses.
You should visit your eye doctor to discuss your options.
You can get high index glasses made that are aesthetically very good. Also, try getting fit in contacts or go for a LASIK surgery evaluation.
Your myopia while high is not extreme. You can be fully corrected at that level and see as well as anyone. If the eyeglasses bother you, then they probably would bother you no matter what the power. Consider checking with your ophthalmologist for contact lenses and when you get to about age 23 or so, LASIK would be the next step. Those who wear glasses are considered more intellectual and smart by others, so there is a bonus for you.
