• Should they have waited until the meds wore off and he was baseline before administering the tests?

An 89 year old man comes to the hospital in good condition. He is on a pass-thru for PT but ends up staying over because insurance is slow. He is given Ativan and has an opposite reaction to what the med is supposed to do. He is combative, incoherent. Now what?

He becomes anxious, has anxiety so they give him Ativan. He becomes very aggressive, confused, doesn't know where he is, not mentally in control. They restrain him.

One hour after the Ativan he is given cognitive tests which he totally fails. He couldn't even draw a clock. Is it reasonable for the hospital to give a person in this condition cognitive tests and would those tests be considered valid?

Should they have waited until the meds wore off and he was baseline before administering the tests?
