• Steroid Injection Question

Can I get a shoulder steroid injection (frozen shoulder) while taking Cipro for a UTI? I read Cipro can affect tendons and muscles so I don't know if combining the two drugs is a good idea. Just started the Cipro and the shot is scheduled for next week.

Ciprofloxacin has most of the detrimental effects on the Achilles tendon. An intra-articular shoulder injection of cortisone should be very safe for frozen shoulder while taking cipro.

I haven't found any contraindication to this but you should discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

I generally avoid the use of steroids while on antibiotics. It can diminish the effectiveness of the antibiotic which may exacerbate the infection. Wait until you have completed the antibiotic course before getting the injection.

Usually, you may get a steroid shot while taking Cipro. You will need to discuss this with your providers. If no uncontrolled infections then you should be able to have a steroid injection.
