It is unlikely that the root canal caused this. What might have happened is the muscles went into spasm as a result of being open for a long time. It may resolve with time, or you may need to consult your dentist or ENT.

Usually it is caused by certain medications like aspirin or from being open so long causing TMJ issues. You may have a crown that needs adjusting or even a bite guard to help. Check any medications you’re taking as well.

I’ve heard from multiple patients about developing tinnitus after A root canal treatment, though it’s hard to find any scientific data research linking the two.
On the other hand, tinnitus is usually associated with TMD ( joint disease).
In my opinion, a root canal in the back area ( molars) many times exacerbates already misaligned joint, which in turn causes tinnitus to become more symptomatic.

Normally, there is no direct relation between tinnitus and Root Canal Treatment (RCT). However, having your mouth open for long time, which happens inevitably with the RCT could lightly hurt your TMJ. Anyways, it is not a common finding unless the patient has a genetic predisposition, or a previous condition that has hurt the TMJ in advance.
