• Tongue Bumps

Recently while sticking my tongue in the mirror, I noticed some bumps in the back of my tongue. I was wondering if I should be worried, I touched them and instantly start to gagging.

The picture is a bit blurry, but you appear to be referring to your Circumvallate papilla. But to be certain, ask your dentist the next time you are in for a check up every 6 months. : Good luck!

Based on your picture these look like taste buds. Please feel free to have your dentist check on them to confirm that at your next check up.

Hi!
Thank you for your question. Although the picture is not clear, the little bumps form when papillae become irritated and slightly swollen. It's not clear why this happens, but it may be related to stress, hormones, or particular foods. Although they can be uncomfortable, the bumps aren't serious and usually clear up without treatment and within a few days. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!
