What Does Single Flare Hyperintensities Mean?

Hi there! I was diagnosed with something odd in my brain MRI and was wondering if a neuro surgeon or neurologist can break it down for me as the neurologist I saw was pretty vague about what it meant. Thank you so much! What does single flair hyper intense focus in the frontal lobe deep white matter mean?

Hello.This is a non specific finding. It can be associated to areas of decreased blood flow such as in severe migraines, it could also be related to trauma, bleed, infection, or demyelination ( loss of myelin ) of multiple sclerosis. It could be prenatal ( before you were born). It needs to be correlated to your clinical manifestations for a better idea of what it can be. Good luck. Dr. F. If you are over 40 one flair may mean nothing. It can be small vessel disease or infection, or nothing. If you have over 4 after 40 it might need further evaluation based on your symptoms.
