What can I do to alleviate the pain
For years I’ll periodically get a sharp and stabbing pain from the left side of my chest from just below the rib cage up into my shoulder and up my arm. It worsens when I’m laying flat on my back. About 1/3 of the time it happens my hands will go slightly numb as well.

Sounds unlikely to be cardiac in origin. Maybe musculoskeletal, perhaps related to a nerve impingement. Check with your primary physician for testing
