I am a 31 year old male. I want to know what happens if you don't get a cavity filled?
If the decay is shallow, about half way through the enamel layer only, and you floss, brush, reduce sugar and carbs, and use fluoride toothpaste you can watch the decay to see if it arrests or grows. You do have to keep up with frequent dental checkups.
Progresses
If you don’t get the cavity filled, it can get worse like becoming bigger and deeper, which then can cause pain and eventually an infection.
It’s like a crack in you windshield, it just grows until one day the window just crumbles into a million pieces. But teeth have nerves and if cavities get big enough you get infection possible. Fix it while it’s small

You might need root canal or, if cavity gets too big, might need to be removed.
Cavities are a soft spot in your tooth. If left untreated the bacteria in the cavity will multiply causing the cavity to get larger. Ultimately, you may need root canal treatment on the tooth or you may lose the tooth completely because of the extensive decay.
It eventually gets to the nerve, causes pain and infection, and it either needs a root canal or to be extracted.
