It depends on the type of cough and whether or not you are able to expectorate (spit up) sputum, or if it is a dry non-productive cough. Are you wheezing or unable to catch your breath? Is your cough related to post-nasal drip from having a runny nose and/or watery eyes. Cough symptoms vary depending on the strain of the virus and whether or not you would need an expectorant, a cough suppressant, an antihistamine or a combination.
