• What is causing my head pain?

I have pain in intermittent intervals. It is usually throbbing type pain in sets of two or three spaced 5-20 seconds. It is worse at night and in the morning. It eases during the day and the pain is always around the crown of my head. These episodes usually last 4-6 days. The pain runs from bad to very bad.

Your pain description does not indicate a specific diagnosis, but has characteristics of at least 2. Migraine typically can produce a throbbing sensation, but other symptoms of migraine would be nausea and vomiting, light and noise making it worse, and the short duration is atypical.

Cluster headaches come over a number of days, usually several weeks to months, occur around 1 eye, with tearing and nasal congestion with each lasting about 30 minutes.

Your family doctor or a neurologist or headache specialist might be able to discover other things in your history and by physical exam, and prescribe something you could take daily to prevent the symptoms.

It's hard to say, but I suggest you contact your doctor and get a scan done and possibly refer you to a Neurologist.
