Inflammatory conditions like autoimmune diseases, cancer, trauma, infections, and iron deficiency. High platelets count could be worrisome if you are at risk of developing blood clots. Thank you.

1) overproduction in bone marrow called primary thrombocytotosis, 2) infection or inflammation, 3) iron deficiency anemia. These are the usual causes.

There are many causes of elevated platelet count ranging from lab error to benign or transient causes like recent inflammation to malignant causes such as a myeloproliferative neoplasm. Speak with your primary care provider about potentially repeating the lab test and/or getting a referral to a specialist.

A high normal platelet count is 450,000 per microliter of blood. if the count is more than 550,000 I would seek referral to a hematologist for evaluation although that level is not dangerous.
