Usually, spinal anesthesia, or epidural if the patient was in labor prior to the C-section. Rarely general anesthesia is used for urgent situations.

Spinal anesthesia block and epidural blocks have the advantage of having the mother awake for the delivery and avoiding manipulation of the airway with intubation for a general anesthetic.

If it is a scheduled C-section it will most probably be done under a spinal anesthetic.  This allows you (and the father) to be awake and meet your child upon delivery.

Typically, patients undergoing a cesarean section will have a spinal anesthetic. Other choices include an epidural anesthetic or a general anesthetic. Discuss your preferences, if any, with your obstetrician and anesthesia care team.

Any can be used but most often a spinal or epidural
