• Will my pregnancy be affected by this?

I just found out I am 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant. The date of conception was Sept 6th. On Sept 25th I had a gastric emptying study done with oral contrast and on Sept 28th I had a CT scan of my entire abdomen done including pelvis with oral and IV contrast, I had these done NOT knowing I was pregnant. When the procedures would have been done I would have only been about 2-3 weeks pregnant. Will the baby be affected in any way or were they done so early in the pregnancy it shouldn't be an issue?

This should be discussed with your doctor. Both of these procedures involve radiation to the abdomen and pelvis. We try to avoid radiation throughout pregnancy, but particularly the first 8 weeks of pregnancy. The most likely outcome is still a healthy baby. Please discuss with your Ob/Gyn physician. The CT dose was likely around 5 mSv and the fluoroscopy study was likely a similar dose. Those studies will likely record the exact dose you received. This will likely be recorded in the radiologist report.

Please have your doctor get in contact with radiology and let them know you are pregnant. There is a calculation they can do to let you know if the radiation was low enough to be safe.
