An MRI found a tumor in my son's brain, but it's small and is being monitored to see if it grows. Would he eventually need surgery to have it removed?

It depends if it enlarges, where it is located, if it is causing symptoms, or if it is causing significant mass effect. Your neurologist or neurosurgeon would be better to answer this question,
since they know your son and the case.
