• Blood in the urine. What could be the reason for this?

I am a 21-year-old boy and this morning I noticed reddish urine which appeared to be like traces of blood in my urine. I have had no falls or injuries or any sort of viral infections. Could it be a sign of something serious or is it just a one-off?

Blood in the urine? Don't panic, see your doctor if it persists on repeated urine analysis.

You should get a check-up by a urologist. It can be kidney stones or a UTI. Low risk, but cancer causes blood in the urine as well.

Any episode of gross hematuria should be investigated. It may turn out to be of little concern, but you need to see and be evaluated by a urologist.

Having blood in your urine is always serious. You need to see a urologist. Possibilities include broken blood vessel, kidney stone, infection, scar tissue and even cancer is a possibility. Cancer would be very rare in a 21 year old, but you still need to get checked out.

Blood in the urine at any age is abnormal and needs to be worked up. My gut feeling it that you probably passed a small kidney stone. You need the following tests: 1) urine culture and urine cytology, 2) CT of the kidneys and bladder known as a CT urogram, 3) maybe a cystoscopy if you continue to bleed and the above studies are negative.

Visible blood in the urine is always concerning, need to get checked out by local urologist
