• Is botox safe for a 56 year old woman with diabetes?

I am 56 years old and I am considering a Botox treatment as my skin is showing severe signs of aging including fine lines and wrinkles, but I am also suffering from diabetes. Would you still recommend botox for me?

Botox, and the other neuromodulators (Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau) have a long safety record and when used appropriately and with proper dosing, appear to be very safe for most people.

Hello, Botox is a neurotoxin which works very locally. If your diabetes is under control, there should not be any problems with you getting Botox injections. Please make sure you go to a reliable experienced physician. For further inquiries or questions, you may want to visit my website at DrRoyamd@aol.com. Good Luck!!!!

It is pretty safe with good preparation and attention to detail. Go into it slowly. Do incremental work gradually and carefully to avoid infection at the injection sites.

Hi and thank you for your question. You ask if Botox is safe for someone in their 50s with diabetes. The short answer is yes. For the botox to be effective it is best that the sugar levels be controlled.

Botox is typically fine for patients with diabetes. Contraindications for botox are people with neurologic disorders since it works biologically at the nerve level.
Good luck and I hope you love your appearance with it!

Hi,

Thanks for your question! Diabetes is not a contraindication for Botox, and in fact, I have many patients with diabetes who get Botox regularly. A board-certified physician can help you come up with a treatment plan that works best for you.

All the best,

Thank you for your question. Botox is generally a safe procedure. It is a minimally invasive procedure with needles being placed through your skin. As long as your diabetes is well controlled, you should be able to have this procedure safely. High sugars with diabetes increases chance of infection, however, infections are very unlikely with Botox procedure alone.

Sincerely,

Thank you for your good and interesting question.
Patients with medical history of diabetes may use Botox for aesthetic indications (i.e., brow elevation, decrease wrinkles, etc.). I would confirm though that my blood sugar values are under control before I proceed with any Botox injection. Stay well.

Botox would probably not help the issues mention. You need to consult with an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist about some other approach to you skin damage, such as laser ablation etc.. Your diabetes need not be a contraindication but must be taken into consideration.

Yes, just be sure it’s done under sterile technique by a licensed and experienced injector. Tell your physician what you're planning, so they are aware of your treatment.
