I had the shingles three months ago and now is gone, but I still have some neuropathy and decreasing bruises. I am 53 y.o. and my question is: Can I take shingrix vaccine while having these few symptoms?
Dear patient, What you can do and what you should do may be 2 different things. If it were me, i would wait. I would probably give it 1 year from the onset of the outbreak. But that is just me Dr B
Hello We generally advise to wait for 6 months after your shingles outbreak before getting the vaccine series. The actual outbreak causes a natural immune response so that is why its ok to wait. I hope your symptoms resolve soon. Dr Karres
Dear patient YES you can receive Shingrix vaccine even if you had shingles in the past. There is no specific length of time that you need to wait before receiving the dose of shingrix. However you have to make sure there are no rash or shingles lesions anymore before receiving the vaccine. In your case since you mentioned some residual bruises it would be preferable to wait for those lesions to disappear before receiving the vaccine. Receiving the Shingrix vaccine if you had shingles is beneficial because it will protect you against future episodes of shingles recurrence. Regarding the medication you are taking they are not contraindicated since they just alleviate the symptoms of the shingles.I have no opinions regarding the homeopathic medication you are receiving. Please contact your medical provider for medical advice and treatment. Yves M. Jean Joseph, MD
It is better to wait until all of the symptoms from the acute infection to be resolved before you get the vaccine. Monika Korff, MDFACAAIoffice-410-730-6000www.allergyasthmamaryland.com
