• Can a physiatrist prescribe medication?

I'm about to go to a physiatrist for chronic pain that I've been experiencing for the past year, after a car accident. Can a physiatrist prescribe medication?

Yes a Physiatrist is a medical physician (MD or DO) and should have prescribing authority. Now that doesn’t mean he/she will prescribe medication, that is left to the doctor’s judgement of your case.

Yes if they chose to. Not all physiatrists do pain management. Some specialize in traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, EMGs...
