I am a 40 year old male. I will have a prostate MRI scan. Can an MRI scan detect prostate cancer?

Yes is the simple answer.

An MRI can show the findings which would be suspicious for prostate carcinoma. An actual biopsy would be needed to confirm the diagnosis. The MR can be helpful in determining the location of the biopsy.
