The typical lesion in a "broken" nose is a dislocation of the cartilage that support the nose under the nasal bone. An x-ray will not pick this up. An x-ray will, however, show a fracture of the nasal bone, which can be a much more serious lesion - as a matter of fact, it can kill you!

Yes. Any well-performed nasal bone x-ray series should be able to demonstrate a nasal bone fracture. If there is any question after the x-ray, a CT of the facial bones could be obtained for further evaluation.
