• Can local anesthesia make you nauseous?

My grandmother needed to have surgery on her arm after a fall, but after the surgery, she was pretty nauseous and we weren't sure about why. She had local anesthesia. Could this have made her nauseous?

Unlikely. She probably received some sedatives as well, particularly an opioid, which could cause nausea.

Local anesthesia by itself does not cause nausea or vomiting. However, a prescription for pain would likely contain an opioid which is the most common cause of nausea after surgery.
