• Can you drink anything before having anesthesia?

My aunt needs to have surgery on her hip and she's in the hospital still waiting for it. She actually drank only a cup of water before her actual surgery and the doctors actually pushed it off. Is it normal to not be able to drink anything during surgery?

Clear liquids are typically acceptable up to two hours prior to anesthesia
