• Coming off Suboxone or overdosing?

I’ve been taking Suboxone for six years 8 mg two strips today. I tried to stop taking it a week ago and I got really really sick had to go to the hospital I’ve been back home I’m trying to regulate myself again and I am sweating real bad severe nausea. I need to know if I’m overdosing on the Suboxone or if I’m not taking enough.

Suboxone is a partial opioid so it needs to be tapered very slowly to avoid feeling sick. Those are withdrawal symptoms. My recommendation is to go back to taking the suboxone 8 mg twice a day and discuss your desire to come off of it with your prescriber. If you have all areas of your life stabilized, it may be the right time. There are injectable medications that can help you get off of this without having withdrawal.

You are having clasic withdrawalunder dosing symptoms. The solution is simple. Take 8 mgm bid for a week, then 6 mgm bid for 10 days,,4 bid x 10 days,3 bid 10 days 4 mgm qd10 days 3mgm qdx10. If moderate cravings recur, go to the next higher dose for longer before cutting m back slowly alowing your brain to reset.

You can never just stop Suboxone. You will go into withdrawal and be very sick. To stop the medicine you need to gradually taper the medication over months of time.

Great question: a LOT of people try to come off Suboxone the way you did. They just stop taking it. That's a really bad idea. It takes MONTHS to come off Suboxone. If you cut the dose too quickly, you'll become dope sick: go into opiate withdrawal. That's what happened to you. Work with your prescribing physician to slowly cut the dose, something.
