• Do store-bought braces work for carpal tunnel?

I feel like I have carpal tunnel syndrome and I want to find ways to treat it without resorting to surgery or anything like that. Do you think a brace from, like, Amazon or Walmart would help? I'm also 24 years old.

Here are some pictures of exercises and a link to a video that may help. Wear a splint at night. A splint from drug store or Amazon is just fine. See a doctor if symptoms not getting better.

Yes, those would work just fine. I'd recommend starting to wear the braces at night. You could also consider therapy or a steroid injection as a non-surgical treatment option.

These are appropriate braces and can mitigate symptoms, particularly the night time symptoms. However, it always best to be evaluated by a hand surgeon for this common and easily treatable hand ailment.

The most important thing to understand is that carpal tunnel can be a spectrum from those patients with rare numbness and tingling and no night pain and no atrophy to those with constant numbness, waking multiple times a night and weakness and dropping things. If your numbness is not constant and your thenar muscles are working any type of short arm wrist splint can be helpful as a starting point. Often injections can be beneficial as well. Have you had a nerve conduction test/EMG to determine severity?

If indeed you have carpal tunnel syndrome, or even wrist tendinitis, then a brace can help with your symptoms. In terms of the particular type of brace, as long as it is comfortable and fits well, a store or internet brace should be fine.

At age 24, it is unlikely that you have carpal tunnel syndrome. However, if you do, a store bought brace can work perfectly fine.
