• Does a CT scan show colon polyps?

I am a 44 year old male with possibly malignant colon polyps. I want to know if a CT scan shows colon polyps?

CT is used for virtual colonoscopy which is used to detecting polyps and uses a very specific technique. You would have to go to a center which can offer this test. But, you would still have to go under a colonic prep which would be similar to a conventional colonoscopy. GI doctors perform colonoscopies to detect polyps.

CT is not sensitive to colon polyps unless the exam is performed as CT colonography.

CT scan colonography is a special exam that can see polyps...done only in certain specialized centers...but patient needs to be cleaned out well by drinking laxative liquid...Colonoscopy done by gastroenterologist..is still the best exam
