Does a thoracotomy carry a lot of risks?
My father is going to get a thoracotomy to remove a large tumor on his left lung. I understand that the recovery is going to a long time for him. But, I'm also wondering, does this surgery carry any dangerous/fatal complications?

The surgery can result in serious complications, however, if he has a tumor that requires surgery, then there's no way around having the operation. Make sure the thoracic surgeon performs these operations on a frequent basis.
