• Does cognitive behavior therapy help couples?

My husband and I are having a lot of problems, and are considering going to therapy. We want to work on our marriage in the best way that we can. Can cognitive behavior therapy help us stay together?

Yes. CBT will challenge your thoughts, biases, and schemas and will help you look into the behaviors that are necessary to change in order to have a better relationship. CBT is a small part of Gottman therapy, that uses an array of techniques for different issues. Try to find a good personality to help you both and hello your relationship.

Yes! Cognitive approaches are essential in healthy couple's communication. Often, what is said in a relationship is not what is meant. This "intent vs. perception" breakdown can often lead to the downfall in marriages and/or all relationships. Clarifying messages and cognitive distortions is a key component as a therapist in working with couples.

Yes of course. Any therapy is better than none. A marriage counselor is better experienced in that but then as myself, I do more relationship counseling than anything. Find one you both like. You might have to try a few before you find a good one for the both of you

In my experience, CBT is helpful. I use a holistic and systems approach to therapy connecting the dots and using a variety of tactics to help the marriage.
