They are typically used to help with inflammation, swelling and pain. To my knowledge they are not utilized for bone healing
Steroids can be used in the post operative period to help control nausea or swelling as an example. The decision to use varies among surgeons. It does not speed the healing process, but can improve some common post operative symptoms
