• How can I reduce the swelling from a sprained finger?

I'm a 37-year-old male. I play baseball and I sprained my finger at our game two days ago. What can I do to reduce swelling?

First, make sure there is not a fracture or tendon/ligament rupture or open wound. Check for instability. Assuming a sprain without instability, treat with temporary immobilization - splint/buddy tape/intermittent ice/anti-inflammatory medication as needed, followed by gradual range of motion.

You should get X-rayed and be examined by a hand specialist.

Best to splint, ice and elevate. Do not splint too long as finger will get stiff. Make sure no fracture with radiograph if not greatly improved over 7-10 days. Good luck.
